I am a Pinterest Connoisseur. Many of my
recipes have come from Pinterest, as well as some of my recent house cleaning
habits. It is funny to see posts from those who tried a Pin out that didn’t
work, but it’s annoying when it happens to you. So far I haven’t been so
unlucky to have a Pin turn out so bad it wasn’t usable, but there have been a
few that I won’t try again, or I need to revisit the method. Here are three
attempts at Pins, each with a varying degree of success.
This was an odd one. I like that it’s cheaper than regular detergent, but the results ended up giving me
more work to do. I followed the instructions to the letter (not normal for me) but the final product turned out to be so thick that I couldn’t put it into another detergent bottle. I’m certain that the problem is in the lack of humidity where I live. Unfortunately adding extra water to the whole mix didn’t help either. So here is what I have to do with it:
1. It’s still in the pot I made it in,
sitting on top of my dryer. There is a ½ measuring cup in the pot. It doesn’t
sink because the mixture is so thick.
2. Next to the pot is a small mixing bowl
and whisk.
3. When I start a load of laundry I put a
half cup of the detergent in the mixing bowl, add a little bit of water to the
bowl, and use the wisk to break down the detergent so it will dissolve in the
water. If I don’t do this it stays in clumps and never dissolves in the washer.
Why do I go through the trouble? I’m stubborn and will use
it until it’s done. I’m fairly certain I’ll just go back to my regular
detergent after all of this, but hopefully I find a fix for it, because as
usual I bought more ingredients than I needed. Whoops! J
This is my favorite thing I’ve found on Pinterest. Mostly
because it has been the most effective, and has reduced my need for unnatural
cleaning chemicals in my shower. I especially love the ease of scrubbing the
wand gives me.
I can’t say anything bad about this except that my husband
doesn’t like the smell of the vinegar after I use it. The simple solution to that
is to clean the shower several hours before he has to use it again, so the
smell has time to dissipate.
This has been mildly successful. It’s still in our vehicle,
but in the back seat where nobody ever really sits. Because it doesn’t have a
good anchor it tends to bounce around, and it takes up more room than it’s worth.
One of these days I might just stick some Velcro on the bottom to make it stick
to the floor, but for the time being a plastic bag on the shift stick will have
to do, although I’m sure that’s not very safe.
