A Few of My Favorite Kitchen Things - Part 3

Here are some more of my favorite kitchen things.

1. Electric Tea Kettle - I have a stove top kettle that works fine, but I prefer the electric one for ease of use. This one is also especially perfect because the kettle can removed from the electric stand for easy pouring.

2. Ceramic Frying Pan - Love this pan! I don't know if it's healthier than the traditional non-sticks for certain. It's almost a a guarantee that somewhere somebody will determine the material causes cancer, but for the time being I'll enjoy it true 'non-stickiness'. I am tempted to purchase a whole set of pots, but I have no room and I really like the ones I have already.

3. Salad Spinner - No kitchen is truly complete without one of these guys. I first saw one at a friend's mom's home when she was preparing dinner. Enthralled, I had to purchase one when I moved out. It's great not only for lettuce, but for pasta, shrimp, and any other items that need to be properly drained for cooking/eating.

4. Coffee Press - So much easier than a coffee maker, especially if you only want 1 or 2 cups of coffee. We use this daily for coffee and loose leaf tea. The tea leaves do tend to get stuck in the crevices, but a good rinse as soon as you're done with it will help to ensure they don't become a permanent part of the press.

5. Rice Cooker Spatula - We have 2 of these, for when one is in the dishwasher. They are truly the best option for serving rice, which is cooked almost daily in our house.

6. Zester - This is not a normal zester, it's mostly for garnish, but works well if you are going to put the
peel in a food processor any way.

7. Digital Thermometer - For those couple times of year I make a turkey/ham/roast etc I like making sure it's cooked properly and the best way to do that is to check the temperature. Most thermometers take time for a reading to be established, but this one can stay in the item in question for the duration of cooking and you never have to open the oven. I can't remember where I got this, probably Bed Bath & Beyond, but it has worked like a charm.

8. Tea Leaf Strainer - I don't think I've ever used this for its intended use as a tea strainer. I've always used it to strain out lemon/lime seeds when a recipe calls for fresh juice. It's so much more effective than picking out the seeds with a knife before squeezing, and ensures none accidentally get into your dish.

9. Banana Stand - There's always bananas in my house. Potassium is important for everyone, but especially for very active people like my husband and me. The banana stand is more of a reminder to eat bananas than for organization.
